Are you eager for your photography session, but aren't sure where to have it? Here are some location suggestions around Tampa Bay, broken down into beach, green, and urban settings. This is a working list, so be sure to come back for updates!
BEACH LOCATIONS
Fort Desoto State Park
3500 Pinellas Bayway South
Tierra Verde, Florida 33715
Fort Desoto State Park is probably my favorite beach location for photos! It's a rather large beach located off the beaten trail that faces west, so every evening features a breathtaking sunset. A small, ankle-to-knee deep lagoon forms between the parking lot and the beach, which offers more opportunities for in-water images without the waves.
Depending on the time of day and day of the week, it also tends to be less crowded, so your photoshoot has a higher chance of having more privacy!
Pass-a-grille Beach, St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island, Madeira Beach, Redington Shores, Indian Shores, Indian Rocks, and Clearwater Beach
These are all the beaches that buffer the Pinellas Park peninsula from the Gulf of Mexico. No matter where you are in the peninsula, you're just a stone's throw away from white sand and waves. Bonus - there are plenty of restaurants to check out after your shoot!
The biggest downside is that these beaches tend to be crowded and parking can be difficult to find. Pass-a-grille is the farthest south, the smallest, and the quietest beach of the lot. Not the ideal session location if you're looking for a more private experience. If you don't mind the crowds, I'm great at photoshop and can make the final images look like you had the entire beach to yourself :)
Siesta Key Beach
948 Beach Road
Siesta Key, FL 34242
I love shooting at Siesta Key Beach because it offers greenspace as well as the sand and water! This is a great location if you want mostly a beach setting, but with a little more nature thrown in the mix! I don't think this is technically part of Tampa Bay, but I do a lot of shoots here for clients in Sarasota.
GREEN LOCATIONS
North Shore Park
North Shore Dr. and 13th Ave
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
North Shore Park has a great mix of green space and beach, and is close to Downtown St. Pete which offers a ton of food and fun activities to do after your shoot! The beach isn't huge, which is why this is in my greenspace section, but it's enough to get shots in the sand and by the water. It is not recommended to go in the water here.
Sawgrass Lake Park
7400 25th Street North
St. Petersburg, Florida 33702
Sawgrass Lake Park features a boardwalk overhung with lush greenery. There is also a lookout point over the lake, but has been under construction and I haven't been able to see it yet - I will update this blog post once I do! There are also large, picturesque trees and a small meadow, which give forest-fairytale vibes.
John S. Taylor Park
1100 8th Avenue Southwest
Largo, Florida 33770
John S. Taylor Park is a great greenspace to have a quick photoshoot! While there aren't many different settings to chose from here, the walkway hugs the lake and offers a nice, airy backdrop if you're only looking for a few photos in a dog-friendly, quiet location!
Westlake Park
810 Village Way
Palm Harbor, FL 34683
Westlake park is the perfect location in the northern section of the peninsula for a quiet shoot in greenspace and is dog-friendly! The park is equipped with a lake, a bridge, walking trails, and plenty of trees to get creative with.
URBAN LOCATIONS
Downtown St. Petersburg
Central Ave
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Downtown St. Pete is centralized around, well, Central Ave. We can visit the Sundial, coffee shops, diverse architecture, and murals that decorate the city to get that urban vibe!
St. Pete Pier
600 2nd Ave NE
St. Petersburg, FL 33701
St. Pete Pier offers a blend of water and city backdrops. Walk down the pier to get the waves of Tampa Bay in your shot, or hang out at the front of the pier to get the cityscape as your background!
